Dennis Ikekeregor wins Ibadan Scrabble Opens

The 2006 Ibadan Scrabble Opens was concluded on Sunday 24th of July. Players were categorised into two divisions (Masters and Opens) based on current rating before the scrabble tournament.

After a total of 12 games in the Masters event, Dennis Ikekeregor the current African Scrabble Champion, beat Segun Durojaiye his closest competitor to win the first prize of N40,000.00 and a beautiful shield in the Masters Category. Dennis won 10 games out of 12, while Durojaiye won 9 games out of 12. Third position was Jighere Wellington, one of the two players who was able to scratch out one game from Dennis.

With this performance, the current African Scrabble Champion Dennis Ikekeregor is in form to defend his Scrabble Championship title in September 2006 in Abuja Nigeria.

The Opens category was won by Gabriel Igboa with 8 wins and +923 spread. Fashedemi Taiwo placed second with 8 wins +783 spread, and 3rd was Odukomaiya Tano who had 8 wins with + 637 spread.

A total of 104 players took part in both categories. The next Scrabble Tournament will be coming up at Eket in Akwa Ibom Nigeria on the 5th and 6th of August 2006.
