4th Godswill Akpabio International Scrabble Classics
The 4th Godswill Akpabio International Scrabble Classics 2010 is being held in Uyo capital of oil-rich Akwa Ibom State Nigeria. The event is being sponsored by the Executive Governor of Akwa-Ibom State Gov. Godswill Akpabio. 252 players comprising of 49 Masters, 32 Veterans, 76 Intermediate and 92 Open category players are competing at the tournament.
Event Details
- Date: 29th-31st October 2010.
Players are expected to arrive on Thursday 28th of October.
- Venue: Le Meridien Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort, Nwaniba Road, Uyo Akwa Ibom State.

- Dictionary: Collins Scrabble Dictionary (CSD)
- Rules: WSC Rules but with 10 point penalty challenge rule.
- Games Format and Rounds:
Master Category for International Players (Non Nigerians) and Nigerian Master Players (rated over 1500) will play 24 rounds (games).
Games format is modified Swiss Pairings with no repeats for first 21 games with lagged draws after game 1, and KOTH (King of the Hill) rounds for the last 3 games.
- Entry fee and Registration:
International Players (Non Nigerians) - $300
Please note that the above fee for international players is payable at the venue (However, registration must be done online to indicate participation). International (non-Nigerians) register on this page. The $300 fee covers registration, accommodation (Bed and Breakfast) for 4 nights (Thursday – Sunday) and lunch at the venue on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Traveling To Uyo
- Option 1:
Uyo has an airport that can be accessed directly from either Lagos or Abuja by the following airlines:
Check your arrival and departure times to and fro Nigeria and see which flights best connect you to Uyo.
- Option 2:
If the timings into Uyo by air do not favour you; there is the option of flying into Calabar or Port Harcourt and being driven to Uyo by road on a two - three hour drive. However, the calabar option is preferable, if you must take this option. Once we know in advance, we will provide the transportation to Uyo from either Calabar or Port Harcourt.

For the above options, we will book and pay for the local flights for all those who register and tell us their flight schedule. However, such sums are expected to be refunded when paying the registration fees.

Prizes
- Champion - USD12,000 + Trophy
- 2nd – 10th positions to share a minimum of $13,000
Please note that 10% of all prize monies will be deducted as tax.

Tournament Information
Registration starts on Wednesday, 06/10/2010 and closes on Wednesday, 20/10/2010. Only the first 80 players to register in the Intermediate and Open Categories, and 40 for Local Master Players categories are guaranteed to play.
Categories
Master : Above 1500
Intermediate : 1200 - 1499
Open : Below 1200 and new players
Veteran: Over 55 years old or inactive Captain of Industry.
However, NSF reserves the right to confirm and approve status.
