From the above resullts: The following players thus emerged as the players qualified to represent Nigeria at the WSC later this year:

Main Players

  1. Owolabi Lukeman – Winner of Qualifiers
  2. Oduwole Tunde – Next high placed player on the Nigerian ratings
  3. Onota Oteri – 2nd high placed player on the Nigerian ratings

Reserves

  1. Ikolo Anthony – 3rd high placed player on the Ratings
  2. Ogbogu Azu – 4th high placed player on the Ratings
Summary

Owolabi in winning the qualifiers dropped 5 games in all. He dropped two games during the round robin games to Oduwole Tunde and Avwenagha Oshevire. The remaining three games he lost, were all to Oduwole Tunde during the last seven “king of the hill” games. He played six out of the seven KOH games against Oduwole Tunde.

Oduwole also had five losses; two (2) during the round robin games to Onota Oteri and Oshodi Sunday, while losing three (3) games to Owolabi during the KOH rounds.

Onota Oteri lost six games in all: He lost two(2) games to Ikolo, two(2) games to Owolabi Lukeman, one(1) game each to Kingha Venayori and Saheed Tayo.

The surprise eentry into the invited players list: Essang Nduonyi (From Uyo in Akwa Ibom) did not do too badly, winning six(6) games in all: Three(3) against Saheed Tayo, one(1) each aginst Ikolo, Balogun and Azu Ogbogu.

Surprisingly, the only player who represented us at the last WSC and also got invited to play in this last WSC qualifier could not find his feet. He could only muster five(5) wins at the end of the games. I guess it must be a sign of the times or his new found job in the bank is no longer affording him the opportunity to study as rigorously as he used to.

Please join us in congratulating our trio of Owolabi, Oduwole and Onota for a good effort and urge them not to relent as there is a major task ahead!
