Nigeria players ready for WSC 2007
The 2007 World Scrabble Championships will be held in Mumbai, India between Friday 9 to Monday 12 November. The World Scrabble Championship will take place at the Taj President Hotel, 90 Cuffe Parade, Mumbai – 400 005, India. According to the official website of the tournament, a total of 110 players are expected to compete including the current World Champion Adam Logan of Canada. The trio of Dennis Ikekeregor (reigning African Champion), Jighere Wellington and Emmanuel Umujose are representing Nigeria. The players are in high spirits and are prepared to do the country proud.
Dennis Ikekeregor participated in the 2003 World Scrabble Championship where he placed a distant 42nd position. He is the reigning African Scrabble Champion. He won the ASC in 2004 and 2006. Judging by his form since 2004, most analyst believe he stands a good chance of gunning for the top prize this time.
Jighere Wellington is currently ranked 2nd on the NSF ratings and has been at the top 3 NSF ratings most of this year. He competed at the last Africa Scrabble Championship and finished at the 7th position.
Umujose Emmanuel is currently ranked 3rd on the NSF ratings. Though he is the least rated amongst Nigeria’s representative in terms of tournament achievements, his current form is inspiring. He is expected to hold his own among the best in the world.
