Eta Karo is 2005 National Champion

Delta State representative Eta Karo has won the maiden edition of the National Scrabble Championships held on 7th-10th December 2005 at the capital city of Abuja. Eta Karo is a 24 year old student of Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma.

Among the 36 players at the National Championship were current African Champion Dennis Ikekeregor, 2005 WSC qualifier and current number 1 rank Onota Oteri, 2005 WSC debutants Lukman Owolabi and Tony Ikolo and Rasheed Balogun who has also represented Nigeria at the WSC. Eta Karo lost only 4 games out of 24 and sat on table 1 for 19 rounds!

Asked what he did to perform so well, he said he worked on his 4 and 5 letter words as well as 8 letters and that he learnt 50 8 letter words per day prior to the Tourney!
