Gateway Games Scrabble Event Timetable
Arrival date is April 1st – April 4th.
Technical Meeting with State officials will be held on April 7th. This meeting is to explain the format of play and duration and will be held at 10.00am on Friday 7th April at the NUT Hall, opposite Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta. The hall is also the venue of the Scrabble games. Games proper commence on April 8th.
General Opens for Rating determination will take place on April 8th (8 games). Registration is N500.00.
Registration Requirements
Each state contingent is expected to come to the venue with the following minimum number of equipment:
- 3 Scrabble Timers (25 minutes count down timer; preferably a SAMTIMER).
- 3 Standard Scrabble Sets with fixed grid (that does not allow the tiles to move about) and has protiles (Unfeelable tiles).
- Chambers Official Scrabble Words (International Edition) dictionary.
- Chambers Official Scrabble Lists (International Edition)
Items 1 and 2 are required during registration, while items 3 and 4 are to aid the team’s preparation. States are advised to seize the opportunity of the Sports Festival buy as many scrabble equipment as possible.
Games Events
- Masters Category SINGLES (ONE PLAYER/ STATE)
- Intermediate Category SINGLES (ONE PLAYER/ STATE)
- Open Category SINGLES EVENT (ONE PLAYER/ STATE)
- Masters TEAM (THREE PLAYERS/STATE)
- Intermediate TEAM (THREE PLAYERS/STATE)
- Open TEAM (THREE PLAYERS/STATE)
- Doubles (TWO PLAYERS/ STATE)
The minimum number of players any state can present for the three categories is 9 (Nine). However, it is recommended for states to register a minimum of 12 (Twelve Players), such that each category has three main players and one reserve.
Event Dates
- Singles event in all 3 categories 9th/10th April
- Team event in all 3 categories 11th/12th April
- Double event no category 13th/14th April
Rating Points And Category
The rating to use is the Kano rating for those who are already in the rating list. Those whose names are not there will be judged with the general opens Tourney of April 8th. Every body is however invited to that tourney as it will help to increase the number of games towards qualification to play in Abuja ASC in September. The general opens therefore is not mearnt for only Gateway Games participants only , every scrabble player is invited, as prize money will be won.
- Rating Points from 1500 and above – Masters category
- Rating Points from 1499 – 1200 – Intermediate category
- Below 1200 Rating Points – Opens category
