Play Format ASC Abuja 2006

Play Format to be adopted in the Abuja 2006 Africa Scrabble Championship.

Game starts	Sept 21st – 23rd 2006

Pairing and number of Games

Aupair software for will be used for pairing; with 16 swiss draws with no repeats and 8 KOH (King of the Hill) to make a total of 24 games.

Gibsonisation shall be applied when there is an obvious winner towards the end of the game.

Prizes and Awards

Prize fund will be $20,000 with distribution for the first ten. The 1st shall be $10,000 , the 2nd to 10th position will be distributed as preferred by popular opinion. There will be trophies for 1st-3rd and trophy for best country, using same format of adding top three positions with the least after addition winning the trophy.

Wild cards

Two (2) wild cards/country will be given for Ladies for the sole reason of boosting female participation, so they don’t really need to be part of a country’s qualification/selection process. A trophy for this will be presented. (This might likely be from MATTEL). If we are able to raise more money, then we can also back this up with cash.

Officiating

Sam Kantimathi has been invited as Tournament Director.

Registration and Affiliation

Payment of affiliation fees of $200 per Country for the past two years. Individual players registration will be $100/player. They will in turn be given free accomodation and at least two meals/day.

Two non-playing officials/country will also be accomodated (Preferably; president, secretary or technical/tournament director, in that other). We will expect at least one of them to help out as runners/computer operators however, if the need
arises.

Travel Arrangements

Players coming could book their flights straight to Lagos (If it is cheaper). We will arrange to convey them to Abuja from there, provided we are adequately informed ahead of arrival. Arrangement is still being made with Virgin Nigeria to offer rebate tickets for players from countries where they operate.
