Dennis Ikekeregor of Nigeria makes history as the first African to successfully defend the Africa Scrabble Championship title. He also becomes the first African to win the title twice. He defeated Eta Karo in the final round with 102 points to retain the crown.
In an interview with NigeriaScrabble.com Ikekeregor confessed that he found the tournament tougher than previous ones. To him the presence of the best Scrabble players in Nigeria made retaining the title more difficult.
On Table Two Femi Awowade beat Sunday Oshodi to the second position while Oshodi moved down to the sixth position. Mike Quao of Ghana retained the fourth position he held in the penultimate round to break Nigeria's sweep of the top ten position.
